On the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture, the Embassy of Hungary, Dublin would like to draw attention to the online concert of the Pannon Philharmonic. The official concert of the Budapest MÜPA is going to be a commemoration of Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály’s oeuvre, as well as an exhibition of some contemporary musical surprises.

The concert will be streamed online on Friday, January 22, 2021, from 7:30 pm, Central European Time.

One of the highlights of the evening is that both of the orchestra’s leading Hungarian conductors who currently live, will take the stage in different roles. The conductor of the evening is Varga Gilbert, who lives in France. This is the first season that the world-famous conductor is leading the orchestra as a Hungarian citizen. Interestingly, the London born son of the violinist Tibor Varga, who died in emigration, took the oath of Hungarian citizenship on 1st October 2020, on World Music Day. Tibor Bogányi, also a Hungarian leading conductor of the orchestra, grew up in Finland and lives in Vienna. This time he is playing solo as a cellist performing a piece for cello and symphonic orchestra by the group's concertmaster, Zoltán Bánfalvi.

The Pannon Philharmonic is looking forward to welcoming you in front of the screen.
